Celebrate Service and Inspiration: The 2024 Algernon Sydney Sullivan Foundation Showcase

Mark your calendars for an evening of inspiration and recognition! The Algernon Sydney Sullivan Foundation is proud to host its annual Sullivan Showcase on April 12th, 2024, at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, Virginia.

This prestigious event is a cornerstone of the Sullivan Foundation, celebrating the enduring power of service and leadership. We honor extraordinary individuals within the Sullivan network who have made a profound impact on their communities.

Building on a Legacy of Recognition

The 2024 Showcase promises to be an unforgettable evening, following the success of the previous year. In 2023, we were honored to present Dr. John McCardell with the inaugural Luminary Award, recognizing his lifetime commitment to service as a Sullivan Award recipient. We also celebrated other inspiring figures like Alyssa Martina and regional service honorees Rebecca Parrish, Dr. Alysa Handelsman, and Darryl White Sr.

2024 Honorees: Champions of Service

This year’s Showcase continues the tradition of recognizing exceptional individuals. We are delighted to announce the following honorees:

  • Dr. Mark Peres: Recipient of the Luminary Award. Dr. Peres’ visionary leadership in founding The Charlotte Center for the Humanities and his role as a Global Ethics Professor have fostered understanding and engagement through the humanities on a local and global scale.
  • Dr. Renee Just: Recipient of the Sullivan Engaged Faculty Award. Dr. Just’s exemplary service has brought Sullivan programming and its core values to life on her campus at Brenau University. Her dedication enriches the lives of students and the wider community.

Celebrating Regional Champions

The Showcase also recognizes outstanding faculty and staff members from our partner institutions:

  • Nell Fredericksen (Ferrum College): Honored for her impactful work with the Empty Bowls event and the Panther Packs program.
  • Paul Davies (Randolph Macon College): Celebrated for his leadership and service that extends beyond the campus to benefit faculty, staff, and the Ashland community.
  • Karla Murdoch (Washington & Lee University): Recognized for her innovative approach to community-based learning and service in Rockbridge County.
  • Sarah B Hardy (Hampden Sydney College): Honored for her leadership in the Compass Program, promoting experiential learning and community engagement among students.

Join Us for an Inspiring Evening

The evening begins with a cocktail reception at 6:00 pm, followed by a seated dinner and awards presentation from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. We conclude with closing remarks by Steve McDavid, President of the Sullivan Foundation.

This business formal event, held in the beautiful Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (200 N. Arthur Ashe Boulevard, Richmond, Virginia), promises to be a memorable celebration of the Sullivan legacy and the enduring impact of our community.
